Industrial lasers out of a garage
Keypoint’s story begins in 1991, when physicist Jorma Orkosalo started to manufacture industrial lasers in his garage. He had just returned to Finland from the USA, where he and his family had lived for over a decade.
While working abroad, he had developed the ability to see the possibilities around him, and also a determination to realise his own ideas. After all, most physicists are driven by their never-ending fascination for the universe and all its phenomena.
“In California, they had an attitude that you can see the world market from your garage, whereas we Finns only see a metre of snow. Companies encouraged innovation and rewarded workers for it. I had several inventions, two of which received international patents in the 1980s”, Jorma recalls of his years before entrepreneurship.
